Corinthians 16:9
Dear friends in Christ,
Thank you for praying for us. The Lord has
answered many of the prayer requests very graciously.
July 1999
My family and I visited churches and supporters in
North Dakota, Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas.
August 1999
It was a blessing, as always, to go into Mexico and
minister to some of the missionaries serving under our Board. We
thank God for the privilege of having a small part in their
ministry. Their gratitude for Spanish Baptist Missions humbles us
and their church services encourage our spirit.
Karen is not able to travel into Mexico because
Stevie and David are susceptible to ilnesses. Therefore my mother,
who is almost 72 years old, travels with me. Experience has taught
us to expect an interrogation and thorough search from the custom
officials of whatever we are taking to the missionaries. For that
reason, we have wanted to find a bible publisher in Mexico. Now I
have mixed emotions about it as the interrogations provide us with the
opportunity to witness to officials.
All the Bibles, New Testaments, and gospel
literature received from different sources, totaling nearly 500 pounds,
were taken to eight missionaries in the state of Guanajuato and to two
missionaries in the state of Jalisco. Videos on the life of Jesus
were given to them also.
Two of my sisters and one aunt are teachers and they
had bought crayolas, pencils, and supplies for distribution to the
missionaries. These we also delivered and then found out that one of
the missionaries' wife had been praying specifically for crayolas for the
Sunday School children.
In Leon, Guanajuato, we were able to help minister
to some teen-agers and young adult drug addicts gathered to watch a video
on hell and then listen to a gospel message. Several expressed an
interest in being saved. Please pray for them. Former drug
addicts are establishing a rehabilitation home to help others overcome
their addictions.
Upon our return from Mexico, we found several boxes
of New Testaments and other literature had arrived. Pray with us
that they may be taken into Mexico very soon.
September 1999
I repaired the motor home in preparation to travel
with my family as soon as the boys recover from their ear and throat
infections. Our plan is to visit several churches in North Carolina
that have supported the ministry faithfully for over twenty years.
We want to personally update the members on the work the Lord is doing in
Mexico.
Family News
We are praising the Lord for answered prayer
concerning godly women helping with the care of Stevie and David.
Both boys are undergoing Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and
Physical Therapy. They enjoy going to Cubbies (part of Awanas) where
they are learning the Scripture verses in sign language. Stevie also
attends group violin lessons.
We thank the Lord for a scholarship granted to Mary
that will cover part of her curriculum. She continues with violin
lessons and is enrolled in a sign language class with Karen.
Prayer Requests
The conference planned for November in Huhi,
Yucatan, is now scheduled for the week of January 17 - 20, 2000.
Missionary Camerino Vargas, Colonia Jacinto,
Guanajuato, works with the people who live in and around the city dump of
Leon, a city of three million souls. Brother Vargas was in a car
accident several years ago and suffers constant severe pain. He
hopes to travel to Chihuahua, Chihuahua for a consultation in November
with Dr. Michael Berkeley. Dr. Berkeley is an orthopedic surgeon
from Glenwood Springs, Colorado who also has a clinic in Chihuahua.
Please pray that all the needs of the trip are met.
Your prayers for travel mercies for my family and me
would be appreciated. Pray that the Lord will open doors to present
the ministry of the missionaries in Mexico. Effectual prayer
warriors are always needed.
An heir of God through Christ,
Joel Silos,
Director
