December 2001

"For the son of man has come to seek and to save that which was lost."

Luke 19:10

Dear Friends in Christ,

At the time you receive this letter, the Lord willing, we should be on the way to our 27th Annual Board of Directors' Meeting.  The meeting is December 7, 2001 at 1:00 P.M. hosted by Enon Baptist Church, College Park, Georgia, and Pastor Jeff Vaughn.

Our desire is that this letter will find each of you well, fully enjoying god's mercy and grace.  We are more than ever aware and are very grateful for His many blessings.  What a wonderful Saviour he is!

Family News

All of us are in good health at this time.  David is now six years old and is undergoing much therapy as he emerges from his autism.  Please pray for Karen as she begins to home-school him along with Mary.

Condolences

We want to express our heart-felt condolences to Brother Jimmy Lee Cook of Jonesville, North Carolina on the home-going of his wife Lucille.  Lucille was a dear friend and prayer-warrior of Spanish Baptist Missions.  Her sweet spirit is missed!

South Wide Fellowship

Things went well at the South Wide Baptist Fellowship where I met new pastors.  A member of our Board of Directors prepared a video presentation with the latest pictures of the works in Mexico.  The presentation was informative and will soon be on CD Rom and available upon request.  After the Fellowship I presented the ministry in new churches in Virginia and Tennessee.  I also attended some camp meetings and revivals.

Five Hundred Gospel Videos and Cassettes

Frank Woodford and Central Baptist Church of Panama City, Florida, have generously provided 500 gospel videos and many cassettes of hymns in Spanish for the missionaries.  These provide an effective way of reaching the people with God's good news.

Web Site

Praise the Lord!  Our website is now up and running.  There is some tweaking needed but it is possible to visit us at "spanishmissions.net".  Our prayer is that God will use the website for His honor and glory and as a result, more souls will be saved and more prayer warriors raised.

Car

We thank the Lord for an offering received from Providence Baptist Church of Riverview, Florida, toward the purchase of a vehicle.  Please continue praying with us for the need to replace the old car we are now driving.

Mexico Travel

The 1981 Dodge van we used to travel in Mexico for ten years was replaced with a 1993 Astro van last February.  However, we quickly discovered the limitations of the vehicle's cargo capacity.  A brand new tire blew out under the stress of the vehicle being slightly overloaded.  This is cause of concern for me.  Some of the missionaries to whom we deliver literature minister in places that only have dirt roads.  These roads become muddy and treacherous with rainfall.  Other roads are very rocky or are in sandy dessert areas.  We are asking the Lord to provide a 4-wheel drive truck with more carrying capacity and the ability to handle rough terrain.

Yucatan Trip

Please pray for our trip to the Yucatan Peninsula planned for the third week of January, 2002.  Our intent is to deliver Bibles and literature to five missionaries besides attending their services.

Special Prayer Request

Missionary Leonardo Urquieta, Leon, Guanajuato suffered serious injuries while working on a light fixture at the top of a pole.  The pole snapped and Brother Leonardo fell from a great height.  The fall ruptured his lung, kidneys, and liver.  The doctors were amazed he survived the accident and expected him to die within a few hours of the incident.  In answer to prayer, Brother Leonardo began to recuperate after awakening from a two-week coma.  As a result of his testimony, several have been saved, among them a nurse who claimed to be an atheist.  Please keep Brother Leonardo before the throne of grace as he moves about with the aid of crutches.  He is eager to begin preaching again.  Information his ministry and a family picture is on our website.

We wish you a merry Christmas and a blessed new year in the Lord!

An heir of God through Christ,

Joel Silos, D.D.
