March 2002

"As for God, His way is perfect: The Word of the Lord is tried:  He is a buckler to all those that trust in him."

Psalm 18:30

Dear Friends in Christ,

Greetings in the name of Jesus, our wonderful Lord and Saviour!  Thank you for praying for us!

Family News

Please pray for the Lord to give Karen stamina as she home-schools Mary Elizabeth and David Josiah.  David is six years old and has bouts with ear infections, but lately, by the grace of God, his health has shown much improvement.  Mary Elizabeth turned 10 in December 2001 and does well with her school-work and her music lessons.  She has received several awards for Bible memorization in Awanas.  She also plays basketball in a church league.

Board Meeting

The annual Board Meeting of the Board of Directors held December 7, 2001, with all members attending was very productive.  It was a blessing to fellowship with our Board Members.  We ask that you uphold them in prayer.  They are: Mr. F. C. Thomas, College Park, Georgia; Mr. Randy Cook, Chilhowie, Virginia; Pastor Merrill Coram, Thomasville, Georgia; Pastor Gene Sorensen, Valrico, Florida; Pastor Bud Wishon, Yadkinville, North Carolina; Pastor Buddy Sizemore, Valdese, North Carolina; Mr. Ben Copeland Jr., Marietta, Georgia.

Reports from the Native Missionaries for 2001

All the reports for 2001 were received from the native missionaries supported by Spanish Baptist Missions.  They show a total of 3,677 professions of faith and 274 baptisms.  On any given Sunday morning, or evening there is an average of about 1,000 in attendance in all the services combined.

Yucatan Trip

The trip to the Yucatan Peninsula in January 2002 went well.  We visited the homes and some of the services of the five missionaries supported there.  While in the area, we met three new candidates for support.  Two of them are starting churches in towns without a gospel witness.  All the men were very grateful for the gospel videos we delivered.  You may view pictures of the Yucatan works on www.spanishmissions.net in the near future.

Missionary News

Please uphold in prayer Brother Rodolfo Pacheco, Puerto Progreso, Yucatan who has begun a prison ministry.

Continue to pray for Brother Leonardo Urquieta, Leon, Guanajuato, who is improving after his near-fatal accident.  He is walking with the help of crutches or a cane and is preaching again.  His strength gives out quickly, though.  This is not easy for a hard-working man who has always given his all to the Lord's work.

Please pray for Brother Isidro Ontiveros and the camp meeting the week of March 25-30th 2002 near Leon, Guanajuato.  He and the church are preparing for 1,000 in attendance as they had in 2001.  We attended last year and while there were able to see ten missionaries supported in that area.

Truck Donated

Praise God for a 1977 four-wheel-drive pickup truck donated by Mr. and Mrs. Charles Garcia of this city.  They are faithful prayer warriors.  Mrs. Garcia is my mother's cousin.

Prayer Requests

For God's power in our life.

For a dependable running vehicle.  Join us in prayer about the purchase of a 1996 four-wheel drive truck conversion.  It seems to be just what we need, especially for travel in Mexico when we go into the back country to the small villages and towns.

For the Lord's safety in the many miles of travel in the United States and in Mexico.

For a video overhead projector.

Updated Map

Please note the most recent map on the reverse side.  There are three new missionaries besides the three new candidates.

An heir of God through Christ,

Joel Silos, D.D.
